Gli\u00a0ALGIERS<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>hanno appena pubblicato\u00a0\u201cCan the Sub_Bass Speak?\u201d<\/a><\/strong>, un contenuto audiovisivo nato dalla collaborazione della band con il duo di produttori Randall Dun e Ben Greenberg ((J\u00f3hann J\u00f3hannsson’s Mandy Soundtrack, Sunn O))), Uniform).<\/p>\n

Il nuovo brano unisce il linguaggio ad un collage di free jazz realizzato dal polistrumentista Franklin James Fisher degli\u00a0ALGIERS<\/strong>\u00a0con il sassofonista pioneristico Skerik e il batterista D\u2019Vonne Lewis, e si espande in un vortice di effetti visivi creati dal premiato regista Sam Campbell e dal tipografo Farbod Kokabi.<\/p>\n

Ispirato da un incontro fortuito con gli artisti Moor Mother e Harrga in occasione del Wysing Polyphonic nel 2018,\u00a0\u201cCan the Sub_Bass Speak?\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0sposta verso una nuova direzione collaborativa la distruzione post-punk delle politiche sonore razziali e di classe che ha sempre caratterizzato la band.<\/p>\n

\u201cCan The Sub_Bass Speak?\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0\u00e8 il nucleo di una pi\u00f9 estesa installazione interattiva online, che puoi trovare qui\u00a0https:\/\/www.thereisnoyear.com\/<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Il video richiama l\u2019\u201castrazione visiva\u201d e il radicalismo politico di Lis Rhodes e John Akomfrah, collocando l\u2019analisi testuale di Fisher sul radicalismo strutturale all\u2019interno del quadro della disorientante rinascita del fascismo in Europa e negli Stati Uniti.<\/p>\n

Fisher afferma:<\/p>\n

Who has the cultural authority to designate origin and authenticity?
\n\u201cCan the Sub_Bass Speak?” is a frustrated regurgitation; a
\nre-contextualization; a re-appropriation; a shield and a mirror that
\nprojects back onto the world a lifetime of interpellating language
\nrooted in weaponized ignorance and supremacist privilege.<\/em><\/p>\n

The improvised punctuation is provided by Skerik on the tenor
\nsaxophone and D\u2019Vonne Lewis on drums and percussion.
\nThe underlying cacophony traces the evolution of African-American
\nmusic, experience and identity.<\/p>\n

This is not for the mercenary architects: the Jacks and Queens of
\nsimulated experience.
\nThis is for anyone who has found themselves on the sharp end of
\ninsidious, rhetorical prying: \u201cWhere are you from?\u201d \u201cWhat are you?\u201d
\nThis is for anyone who has had their identity assigned and determined
\nby the agents of patriarchy.
\nThis is for the Subaltern.<\/em><\/p>\n

Inoltre, gli\u00a0ALGIERS<\/strong>\u00a0hanno annunciato un tour che nel 2020 li porter\u00e0 in giro per l\u2019Europa e il Regno Unito, forse un indizio sul fatto che potrebbero pubblicare presto del nuovo materiale. La band sar\u00e0 in Italia per ben due date questa settimana\u00a0e torner\u00e0 a fine febbraio per due tappe a Roma e Milano.\u00a0I biglietti per il tour del 2020 saranno disponibili dalle ore 9:00 di venerd\u00ec 30 agosto.
